Set up in 1984 by a CCPE student, who was invited by Donald Reeves, the rector of St James’ church, (described by Margaret Thatcher as a ‘very dangerous man’, for his activism) to provide advice and support to anyone in an old caravan. It grew to become the counselling and psychotherapy service it is today.
St James has a tradition of social activism over the past centuries, and today for example, you will find homeless people sleeping in the pews on one side of the church during the day.
